A.R. Penck

AR Penck alias Ralf Winkler was born in Dresden in 1939 and has had the tendency to paint ever since he was young. He travelled across the borders of the former GDR in order to settle permanently in Western Germany in 1980 and eventually became one of the most appreciated German contemporary artists. He participated in numerous exhibitions like the Biennale in Venice and the Documenta in Kassel. Inexhaustible Penck picks up themes of social and political importance, and even today he concerns himself with current affairs. His art works communicate clear opinions with a convincing Penck-like logic.
